Living With Toe Pain

Toe pain is very common, especially since the feet are the most regularly used part of the human body. When a toe is injured, because of the importance of the foot and its use, then the toe injury – no matter how small – can become a larger problem, something that can become serious over time and cause chronic pain in the foot and leg as well.

As the patient ages, so does the rate of injury of the toes increase. All components of the feet are meant to work together and provide a modicum of support and balance as well as assist in a level of mobility that helps the patient. When any toes is injured, that network of support is lessened and causes a breakdown of the overall mechanics of the foot and effectiveness of mobility.

Toe pain can occur from wearing poorly fitted shoes, wchih can cause calluses, ingrown toenails, and corns as well as exacerbate conditions such as Morton’s neuroma, bunions, and hammertoes. Severe toe pain can lead to certain conditions, such as gout and increase swelling, redness, and inflammation.
