How Do I Treat My Ankle Injury?

While ankle injuries happen daily, some ankle injuries are not taken care of immediately which is a serious problem as attention is best when an ankle injury is sustained. Anyone who receives an ankle injury should seek the care of a physician and their earliest possible convenience.

If you are involved in an accident in which your ankle is injured you should practice the following tips:

Rest: You should get off your foot and ankle and put your leg up and not move.

Ice: Get a bag of ice or ice packet and wrap it in a towel and place on the ankle for 20 minutes, followed 40 minutes off. Repeat this process as often as needed.

Compression: Using an Ace bandage, lightly wrap the injured area without wrapping or pulling too tightly on the ankle.

Elevation: Position yourself in a seated posture and elevate your foot and ankle to an angle higher than your waist to reduce pain and swelling.
